National Playday is a great day where we can celebrate the importance of coming together to play and in true Manchester fashion, we are hosting a full day of exciting activities and entertainment. Councillor Garry Bridges, Executive Member for Early Years, Children & Young People, said: Next week's Play Day event in Whitworth Park is part of Our Year 2022, which is a council initiative to create more activities, opportunities, experiences and support for children and young people in the city. Pip and Posy will be bringing their special brand of play to Manchester’s Playday Festival in Whitworth Park on Wednesday 3 August with exciting goodies and entertaining activities for children to have some fun!

Young fun seekers and their families are also encouraged to come and say hello to TV stars Pip and Posy, from Magic Light Pictures’ hugely popular and award-winning animated pre-school series on Milkshake! and Sky Kids. Play is recognised under the UN Convention of the Rights of the child, and as Manchester moves to becoming a UNICEF UK child friendly city, it is more important than ever to make sure Children have the right to play. The Council recognises that play is essential for children and young people, as it allows young people to make friends, to channel their creativity and to feel connected to each other. The event coincides with Playday - the national day for play, celebrated each year across the UK on the first Wednesday in August. Timed to celebrate the start of the school summer holidays children of all ages from the tiniest tots to teenagers, will be able to dabble in a wide range of activities and entertainment- there will even be a special visit from TV Stars Milkshake’s Pip and Posy!įrom messy play and sensory activities for younger children, to a climbing wall, a DJ and circus skills workshops, the day will be filled with fun from start to finish with something for all to enjoy - and all of it free.
